English: Flight documents

French: Documents de vol

Your pilots need certain paperwork before you can depart. One important document is the flight plan. The flight plan provides the pilots with many important pieces of information, including but not limited to: the planned flight path, alternate airport information in case of diversions, weather, fuel provided, passenger count, baggage weight, etc.

Another relevant piece of paperwork comes from maintenance personnel. If they were working on a mechanical issue, they need to fill out the appropriate paperwork afterwards and hand it to the pilots before departure so that the airplane has an updated copy of the maintenance record.

If your departure is delayed because you’re still waiting for paperwork, you may need to make an announcement informing the passengers.

“Flight plan” is usually translated as “plan de vol.”

We’ll opt to use “documents de vol” to refer to all kinds of paperwork, beyond just flight plans and maintenance paperwork.

Plan (m)=Plan

Vol (m)=Flight

Flight Attendant Souvenirs. Souvenirs d’un agent de bord. Okinawa, Japan. February 2015. Okinawa, Japon. Février 2015. I took a short ferry ride from Naha to a small island off the main island of Okinawa. There was only one restaurant on the small island. I ate there, then I saw that someone had bicycles for rent in their back yard. Just a sign posted by the bicycles telling you to put the money in their mailbox. I rented one and biked around the island.

English: Caterer

French: Traiteur

Imagine your flight has finished boarding and is ready to depart from the gate. Unfortunately, the caterer is still catering the airplane because they arrived late. They provide your plane with fresh food and drinks that you give out or sell on your flight. Your captain informs your passengers that you’re still waiting for the caterer. Now you have to translate.

English: Fuel, fuel truck

French: Carburant, camion-citerne à carburant

Airplanes need fuel to fly, needless to say. Idling on the ramp also burns fuel. For example, if you’re waiting in line for de-icing for prolonged periods, you’ll also burn through a lot of fuel.

Sometimes, the fuel truck is running late or is having mechanical issues itself. If your flight is delayed because you’re waiting for fuel, you’ll need to inform your passengers of such.

Carburant (m)=Fuel

Camion (m)=Truck

Citerne (f)=Cistern, reservoir, tank

Camion-citerne (m) à carburant=Fuel truck
